We Just Wanna Make The World Dance!

Property of Cher Odum

Last week was a crazy time loaded with ups and downs as we finally told our boss about our trip plans and our resignation. The whole thing was a huge weight off our shoulders and it seemed to give us the courage and motivation to start putting some concrete plans in place. For me, it immediately shifted my thought process from “let’s dream and plan” to “let’s make this happen!”

As we plunged into this week, our last of seven before we are officially unemployed, a theme song began to stick in my head that felt perfect for my new “let’s make this happen” mentality, and perhaps, the perfect farewell to my paycheck:

“It’s not about the money, money, money,
We don’t need your money, money, money,
We just wanna make the world dance!
Forget about the price tag!”

Yes, farewell paycheck, hello worldly experiences…and I do hope that includes a lot of dancing!

So where will this said dancing begin?

We can now answer with certainty because we booked our flights! We found a smokin’ deal ($300 per person, taxes included) leaving from Calgary on June 18th arriving in, ready for it……London!

Yes, that’s a little different than what our itinerary looked like a few months ago but a significant factor made us rethink the order of our trip. We realized that Madagascar’s rainy season will be in full swing as of December. Since this is actually our official honeymoon location, we felt it was important to try to get there during a time of the year when we could fully enjoy it. Plus, it’s an expensive leg of the trip and who knows if we’ll ever make it back there again. So by starting in Europe instead of Central America, we gain a couple of months and hope to make it to Madagascar for November.

Okay, now I know you want to….play the song again and do a little dance because if you’re reading this, you likely made the same choice as we did and gave up a paycheck or you were a huge part of helping us have the courage to give up ours!
