When we started planning this trip we had absolutely no clue as to how much our Round the World adventure would cost us…. we found a lot of awesome inspiration online, and in the end we decided on an approximate goal of $100 per day. We recognize that in some countries we will be over, and hopefully in others we will be well under, but this seemed like a good round number for us.
On a daily basis we inputted our spending into a little notebook, and then when possible transferred these numbers online onto a budget tracking website, Budget Your Trip (thanks to Warren and Betsy for referring us to this site). There are some tiny glitches with this program, but all in all it does a good job of tracking our daily averages as well as categorizing our spending (we are still trying to convince the site designers to put in a separate category for coffee, as we see to give it enough attention to warrant this!!)
As we move forward, we will keep you up-to-date on what we are spending. I think often people have the idea that something like this is financially out of reach. Hopefully we can prove otherwise.
So, here they are, our numbers for the time we spent in the England and Scotland:
Total # of Days – 17.5
Total Dollars Spent (CDN) – $2,016.18
Daily Average (CDN) – $115.21
Our main three culprits were food (25%), local transport (24%), and accommodation (19%).
All in all we are actually pretty happy with our spending situation. Yes, we are over our $100 daily budget.
